On April 6th 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Trump Administration was shifting immigration policy to one of "zero tolerance" for any illegal border crossing.
This included separating children from parents and criminally prosecuting everyone – refugee, immigrant – and detaining them.
Two months later, over 2,000 children were separated from their parents and detained.
On June 18th, ProPublica released an audio recording of an anonymous worker at one child detention facility that held some of these children.
On June 20th, President Trump signed an executive order to "keep families together", which would end the child-separation policy"in most cases".
This order does not, however, eliminate the "zero tolerance" policy and could lead to families being detained in military bases and detention centers indefinitely.
It is still unknown whether Congress will pass comprehensive immigration reform or whether or not these children will be reunited to their parents.
